Speaking of which, I’ve only seen a few successful depictions of Lovecraftian horrors from beyond. Lovecraft learned well the effectiveness of creeping fearful anticipation vs. the anticlimactic reveal of a creature that fails to scare (those quaint old monster movies, for ex). Few manage to pull it off… one non-lovecraftian example I can think of is John Carpenter’s “The Thing” (which manages to be horrific even after 20 years). Even there, the key ingredient to success is that the shape-shifting alien was never fully understood, and there’s a lot of buildup of paranoia and creeping fear in between its appearances. Here’s to hoping I won’t be disappointed by Riven Sol.

lol!! Ahh, such a small difference between a few more lives of bacteria for the sickly aliens’ health, and a few more lives of … human-sized… “bacteria”… for the sickening aliens’ … um… health? (After all, one has to eat! Think of the starving ravenous terror children from the deep!)

What Lipe doesn’t realize is that by “a few more lives”, the cultist is talking about bacteria; see, they have to get rid of some nasty contagions aboard Danforth Station before the sickly aliens can arrive. And by “a little more blood”, he means that they’re a bit short on Arjuna’s blood type, which the Terror Beings from Beyond need for their hospital blood bank.

See, Arjuna’s not tied up: he asked to be restrained because he passes out when giving blood!

Yeah, they really aren’t beating around the bush, are they? They probably don’t hold many recruitment drives. Campus Crusade for Cthulhu doesn’t have a chapter on Danforth Station, I guess.

This cult probably needs to invest a little more time in the brainwashing phase before exposing new members to the heavy human sacrifice stuff. They’re a little rushed.
